So what is iced coffee?
Iced coffee was first developed in the 1840s in Algeria when coffee drinkers began enjoying coffee syrup mixed with water in the warmer months. It quickly spread through Europe and by the late 19th Century it was available in most European restaurants. By the 1920s, the popularity of iced coffee had exploded in both the United States and Europe. Today, iced coffee is one of the best-selling coffee beverages.
There are dozens of variations of iced coffee found in different countries around the world but we’re going to focus on the simplest version.
This is an extremely simple recipe for iced coffee that is delicious and easy to make.
- 200ml strong black coffee
- 50ml milk Or alternative
- Maple syrup (optional)
How to make iced coffee: step-by-step instructions
- Brew a strong cup of coffee using your favourite brewing method
- Wait until your coffee is cold, then pour it into a blender with milk and 2-3 handfuls of ice. Add a squirt of maple syrup for sweetness if you wish. Blend until smooth and foamy.
- Serve in a chilled tall glass. Yum!
