Avocado is a rather unique fruit! Full of health benefits, this fruit is really high in healthy fats and is super delicious and versatile. But avocado can be an amazing ingredient for homemade beauty treatments too! So, let’s find out some zero-waste uses for this amazing fruit!
- HAIR TREATMENT
Avocado can do a lot for your hair. It’s great for frizz hair and can also be used to treat a dry and itchy scalp. That’s because avocado contains many amino acids and fats which are great for healing the fibers of your hair. You just need to mash up some avocado flesh and massage it into your scalp.
If you want something specific for frizz hair, mash up an avocado and then add two tablespoons of avocado oil to the mixture. Massage that into your head and let it sit for 15 minutes.
- SHAVING CREAM
Avocado makes an environmentally friendly solution to shaving cream. Of course, there are many recipes: some people simply suggest to extract the flesh of the avocado and rub it right on the area that needs shaving. Others prefer a more complex recipe with several other ingredients, such as shea butter, in addition to avocado or avocado oil. But rest assured, you can just scoop out the avocado flesh and use it on your legs or whatever else needs shaving!
- NATURAL SUNSCREEN
Here at As Nature Intended, we know the importance of using natural and non-toxic sunscreens and you can use avocado to give an extra protection to your skin! Like other vegetables, avocado oil has natural, sun-fighting properties that can protect our skin from sun damage. Avocado oil is great for protecting our skin from sun’s rays because of its high density of mono-saturated fats. The fats add a protective layer over the skin, that the sun’s UV rays can’t penetrate!
- NAIL TREATMENT
Avocado oil can also be used as a cuticle and nail treatment. If your nails are brittle or rough, avocado oil penetrates deep into the inner layers of your cuticle. There, it hydrates your nails and also grow them stronger and healthier!
- FACE MASK
When living a zero-waste lifestyle, making beauty treatments such as face masks, with ingredients you can find at home, is a great way to cut back on single-use plastic and to avoid wasting food. And avocado can be used in many different beauty recipes!
You can start with the classic two-ingredient avocado face mask made only with avocado and honey. This mask is ideal for dry skin. You can hydrate dry skin also adding ingredients like buttermilk and carrots to the mix.
Alternatively, if you want to make a scrub, mix one-part avocado oil with one-part brown sugar. The sugar exfoliates and the avocado moisturizes. Plus, it smells so good!
