LoveRaw make a delicious range of organic, vegan, nutritious snacks and drinks. Find out more about the brand in this interview with Rimi…
How did it all begin for LoveRaw?
I had no energy, tired and felt older than my years. I questioned was there really a correlation between eating well and feeling good? HELL YES! I felt rejuvenated like a new person reading food labels was now my thing, the most frustrating part was seeing food companies portray themselves as “healthy & nutritious” when you looked closer this was not the case. This frustration turned into passion and along came LoveRaw.
Determined, I started making organic snack bars at home, packing and sealing everything by hand and I soon outgrew the home kitchen. LoveRaw is fierce, vibrant and we believe in 100% transparency. We don’t do processed or complicated. We strip everything back, are natural, remain innovative and always honest, that’s what LoveRaw is all about.
We’re a family run business, it’s crazy here, there is no balance between home and work but I love it. Since becoming a parent I am even more passionate about why we do, what we do.
Why do you do what you do?
We want to break the mould and the misconception that healthy snacks taste bland and boring. We make great tasting everyday snacks, without the guilt. We are launching a new disruptive category which will shake things up. We are kicking off the category by introducing…LoveRaw Butter Cups.
What’s your favourite product?
Well it has to be the Butter Cups, we have been working on them for so long so it feels to talk about them finally. They come in three flavours Hazelnut, Peanut & Salted Caramel and taste like a dream. They are basically a vegan chocolate cup filled a nut butter filling. I won’t say anymore just taste for yourself : )
What does a typical day look like for you?
I get up most mornings around 6.30am, that time before my daughter wakes up is sacred I always try and do a bit of exercise, yoga or mediation something to set me up for day. I then get my daughter Marni ready for preschool and pack my breakfast and lunch for the day. I would love to be one of those families that have breakfast together around the table but weekdays are too hectic. Work days vary, always involves emails, the last few months have been highly focused on NPD with the Butter Cups. Lunch is usually last night’s left overs, I’m terrible lunch is at my desk. I tend to leave around 4.30pm to pick up my daughter, or I take it in turns with my husband because there are often late evenings. My go to dinner is usually steamed veg with a tahini dressing, sweet potato and lentils or some other protein, it never takes more than 40minutes. I always aim to out Marni to bed 7.30pm however it ends up being 8pm, being self-involved routine never sticks as much as I try. Bedtime with Marni is my fav part of the day we ready stories and talk about her day and what she’s looking forward to. I’m usually in bed by 9.45pm…yep its wild also on a weekend which I shouldn’t admit. Since I read Matthew Walkers book Sleep we go to bed on time that’s one things I try and stick to.
What advice would you offer to anyone wanting to start up their own food business?
If you have a burning desire and the passion then do it, however know your point of difference. Try and offer something different that isn’t on the market already and own it. Be resilient and keep going because you will most definitely have bad days and where things go wrong. Don’t do it for the money or the glamour because it’s not glamourous and it’s not a get rich quick. Do it because you love what you do and let the passion and your entrepreneurial spark drive you.
