Farmhouse Freedom Eggs

Farmhouse Freedom Eggs has a simple philosophy - well kept, well-fed, unstressed chickens on small, family run farms lay the best quality eggs. The 10 acres of grassland at Great House Farm in the hills of South Wales form the ideal hub of this enterprise.

The company began in 1985 when Gerry and Linda Tuffs acquired their first chicken shed. At first, the eggs were sold to the Martin Pitt Freedom Eggs operation based in Marlborough, but in 1999, when Mr Pitt retired, Gerry took over the business. Today, Farmhouse Freedom Eggs is supplied by 9 local Welsh farms operating to the same careful criteria of bird welfare and high standards of nutrition in order to meet the approval of the RSPCA Freedom Food scheme. The accreditation ensures that the chickens’ welfare is a top priority. For example, stocking densities in the naturally ventilated sheds are kept low, and hedges and shelter are provided in the fields. The smaller flocks like the one at Great House Farm are entirely organic and are approved by the Organic Food Federation.

A recent initiative on the farm has been the production of organic mayonnaise; the purest natural organic ingredients are blended together with pasteurised free-range organic eggs.
